OUR STORY
The dirt. The plants. The hard work. For six generations this has been the Becnel family’s lifestyle. Generations have plowed the land, potted up trees, experimented with new varieties and hung their hats on farming pride. Katie Becnel Traut, the current manager of Thomas Becnel Farms, recounts hearing stories of her great grandfather and grandfather tilling the soil with a mule. Her father, Thomas Becnel Jr, remembers when the family bought their first tractor.
If only the land could talk, the stories it could tell! Farming technology and means of operations have changed throughout the decades, but the family’s devotion to producing beautiful nursery trees has remained. The company has grown and adapted to the changes in farming and their latest upgrade has been creating their own unique brand of nursery trees- Armadillo Acres™.

Armadillo Acres™ was a dream of Katie Traut’s to build Thomas Becnel Farms into a more diversified company. “We grow beautiful nursery plants and trees, plain and simple. I know the Becnel family is well known in our area for that. My goal was to create a brand that stood out among the rest. Armadillo Acres™ is our brand of nursery trees. In this brand you will still find all the varieties customers have come to know and love. We have taken it a step farther and created two additional brands inside Armadillo Acres™. As one of the South’s premier avocado growers, be on the lookout for Torres™ avocados. Additionally, we are proud to present Sweet Victory™ berries!
